Holidays in East Yorkshire
Staying at one of our self-catering holiday cottages at Field House Farm on the East Yorkshire coast allows you to discover a relatively unknown part of this beautiful county.
We offer a brilliant base from which to explore the nearby East and North Yorkshire coastline, The Yorkshire Wolds, The North Yorkshire Moors, York, Whitby, Scarborough, The Wolds Way and, of course, our local spectacular Heritage Coast of Bridlington, Bempton and Flamborough Head.
Here are just some local highlights.
Bridlington's historic Old Town and its north and south beaches are all within three miles of Field House Farm Cottages.
For families Bridlington offers miles of safe, sandy, prestigious Blue Flag beaches plus the new East Yorkshire Leisure Centre with both fun and swimming pools, fitness suites, a climbing wall and a lovely cafe with expansive sea views. In the centre of the town you'll discover an attractive fishing harbour as well as restaurants, entertainments, two theatres, cafes, tea-rooms, pubs, cinemas and bowling. The Old Town has antique shops, art galleries,The Bayle Gate Museum and Priory Church an independent family butcher and artisan baker. It was chosen as the location for the 'Dad's Army' film, released in February 2016. We are closer still to a small indoor swimming pool, just a five-minute walk away.
Explore the East Yorkshire locations painted by David Hockney, one of the world's most famous living artists, until recently a resident of Bridlington.
Just three miles from the cottages, Flamborough Head offers a Heritage Coast, North Landing and South Landing, Thornwick Bay, a sculpture trail, cliff walks, nature trails, sandy coves, rock pools, boat trips, the lighthouse and the lifeboat station. Good pub meals are available using fresh fish caught locally.
Sewerby Village, Park and Hall
One mile from the cottages, Sewerby Park features formal and informal gardens, Sewerby Hall with furniture on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum, putting, a 12 hole mini golf course, a children's zoo, a land train and a cafe. In Sewerby village, you will find a pub, cafe, restaurant, fish and chip shop and model village.
RSPB Bempton Bird Reserve, Bempton Cliffs and Danes Dyke
Only one mile from the cottages, this is one of the most visited RSPB sites in the country. Various events are held during the year and on-site wardens and volunteers are on hand for advice. Danes Dyke is a defensive Iron Age earthwork that cuts across the headland from north to south. Though not open to the general public, access to part of it is permitted for birdwatching. Other birdwatching sites can be found at Filey Dams, Tophill Low, Spurn Point and Hornsea Mere.
Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and York
Filey is 15 minutes away by car, Scarborough 30 minutes, and Whitby and York 50 minutes respectively. All four are well worth a visit, especially historic York, famous for York Minster and The Shambles.
Excellent local walking can be had from your own doorstep. We provide local maps in each cottage. A stroll of only one mile will take you to our local eatery / pub, as well as a farm shop offering pick-your-own-fruit.
The Hull Truck Theatre and The Stephen Joseph Theatre in the round, Scarborough are two of the best local theatres. Both the Bridlington Spa and The Spotlight Theatre in Bridlington put on a variety of entertainment.
There are some excellent local golf courses. Flamborough, The LInks and Bridlington Belvedere are all within three miles and offer a golfing passport.
