R.S.P.B Bempton Bird Reserve. Bempton Cliffs. Danes Dyke 1 mile
The bird reserve is one of the most visited sites in the country and has on-site wardens and volunteers to assist identification, a shop, viewing platforms, information boards, outside catering and car-park. Various events are held throughout the year. At Danes Dyke - a defensive Iron Age Earthwork that cuts across the Headland from north to south - we allow birdwatching access to part of this ancient fortification not otherwise open to the general public. The public area of Danes Dyke has a tree trail and lovely walks with a cafe and car-park.
Other sites for bird-watching: Filey Dams, Tophill Low, Spurn Point, Hornsea Mere.
Filey 15 mins by car, Scarborough 30 mins, Whitby and York 60 mins.
Filey has a magnificent sweep of beach and a "fifties" feel. Scarborough is dominated by the castle on the headland. It's very hilly and has some grand buildings and views. Pedestrian shopping on Westborough. Sea-sidey and fun.
Whitby is dramatic, very crowded in Summer. You can never be bored in York- it is the perfect place for a day out and has something for everyone.
