January 4th 2010.  Happy New Year. Snow fell here on 18th December and hasn't thawed at all since then.  All our visitors arrived and departed in safety over Christmas and New Year, so we breathed a sigh of relief that their journeys weren't too difficult. The weather forecast is for the wintry weather to continue.  I took some particularly lovely shots over the fields, only to discover that I had the setting on video, so I cannot work out how to retrieve them. The days have been bright and clear (unlike the photo above, taken early in the morning, before the hoar frost lifted) and have been perfect for well wrapped up walking. The photo of the South Beach at Bridlington could have been almost any Sunday afternoon this autumn before Christmas - we've had some wonderful walks down there with the dog, with hardly a soul in sight.

If anyone out there is following the tale of the chickens and their egg-laying capabilities, we are back to three, sometimes four a day.  They are receiving a diet fit for kings. Yesterday they feasted on over-ripe bananas and beans from John's  harvest heap that has yet to be sold.

We hope to see many old and new faces this coming season.

December 10th 2009 We will have all the cottages decorated for Christmas by the end of the week.  It's a job that Fiona and I both enjoy on a murky winter's afternoon, because when we have finished trimming a tree, with a flick of a switch the lights come on (usually!) and each cottage immediately looks Christmassy. We are looking forward to welcoming both new and known returning visitors, alongside members of our family who will be spending time with us at Field House over the festive period. Unusually, we have one or two spaces, so if you fancy a last minute break, give us a ring and we'll see what we can offer.

Our chickens have gone on strike recently. from seven healthy birds, we are only getting a measly two eggs per day.  When the sun was shining and the days were longer, they were providing seven- one each. They are now receiving booster rations, so that I won't have to buy in eggs for my Christmas baking.

We had our yearly Visit England inspection in mid November and were delighted to be awarded Gold Awards in all our cottages,in addition to our three 5 Star and four 4 Star Ratings. We have Fiona and our team of "girls " to thank for their meticulous attention to detail in maintaining the cottages each week.
